Mawkyrwat MLA apprises CM of Jakrem road
SHILLONG: A delegation of Church leaders comprising of Synod Committee and MLA Mawkyrwat, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar apprised the chief minister, Conrad Sangma on the road connectivity in Jakrem in view of the Church’s preparation for Synod gathering in 2020. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Tongkhar said, “We spoke to the CM about the road connectivity and water problem. We hope for the government’s support.” He said there are certain portions of the road that needs to be repaired and expressed concern on the need to have parking space and to have the internal roads of the village repaired.

MUPSTA clarifies on teachers’ meeting
Shillong: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association in a press statement clarified that the general meeting of all Ad hoc school teachers to be held on May 18 at Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar, Shillong will be convened by Kenneth Shadap as the convener. It was mentioned in a news report by The Shillong Times on May 13 as the meeting of the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM). It further stated that it was a misunderstanding to the adhoc school teachers. MUPSTA added that the letter of invitation was sent to the Federation of All Meghalaya Ad hoc Secondary Teacher Association (FAMASTA) according to the requirement of the secondary school teachers. But in the meantime, it is understood that the adhoc school teachers will surely attend the meeting even though FAMASTA and AMAUPSTA are not willing to attend.

Meet on socio-economic census of Hajong community
TURA: A state level meeting on socio-economic and population census of the Hajongs of Meghalaya was held this week at Sapthoka’s Hajong Cultural –cum-Museum Centre of South West Garo Hills District by the recently created United Hajong Community Development Organisation. It was formed in August, last year, with an aim to strengthen the community especially on social and cultural development, education and skill development, employment and economic growth, among others. Chaired by its president, Bakul Hajong, the organisation discussed the ongoing comprehensive data-based socio-economic and population census of the Hajong community in the state covering all Hajong -inhabitated areas which started from April. During the meeting, the members adopted a resolution and constituted a census committee to guide the census workers and complete the task as per the designated time schedule for final declaration.The selected census committee members are Bakul Hajong as its chairman and ten others as vice-chairman.
