SHILLONG: A delegation comprising members of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) expressed surprise at the high rate of Rs 30 for using the restroom at Marba Hub.
Speaking to reporters, Nelson Kharbani of HANM said, “We received complaints that the restroom here at Marba Hub costs Rs 30. It is funny that the rate is so high. It is unacceptable.”
He said that the organization will shoot off a petition to the Deputy Commissioner for taking advantage and scoffed at the ‘security’ argument as an excuse for the high rate.
Later, the general manager of the mall spoke to the members and retorted that if the people want to use the restroom for free they can do so.
However, the organisation maintained that Marba Hub can remedy the issue by reducing the rate.
“The amount of Rs 30 is only for the safety of the people. Initially, it was free of cost, then we came to know that some unwanted things are happening who are spending more time rather than their private concerns, hence, we came up with a call to charge Rs 30,” he said.
Asked, to elaborate more on the security concerns, the general manager refused to comment.
On the other hand, vice chairman of the HANM anti-influx operation cell, John Sangma asserted that the general manager of the mall should be substituted by a local person.
