RR eyes Barsapara Stadium as IPL venue

Guwahati: Jaipur based IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) is eyeing Barsapara as one of its home grounds for the next season. Local lad Riyan Parag who showed an excellent performance this IPL season with the team today
visited the stadium alongwith senior officials as Assam Cricket Association (ACA) members apprised them of various facilities and state of the art infrastructure of the stadium.
Jaclus Macrum, head of operations of the RR team along with Riyan Parag visited the stadium in the afternoon. ACA secretary Debojit Saikia explained them the various facilities available in the stadium. “We are very keen to hold IPL matches in the stadium. And this visit of Rajasthan Royals officials to the stadium is an effort towards that so that in coming season Baraspara can hold few marches of the premier league.
RR officials has shown keen interest in holding few of their home matches here and now there is an added attraction of Riyan Parag who performed brilliantly in the just concluded IPL,” said Saikia.
Mr Saikia has informed that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also showed keen interest to hold few matches at the Barsapara ground last season, however, at last moment things did not worked out. “We have been in touch with couple of team for holding of IPL matches this season. We had offered them all logistic support as teams like KKR showed keen interest.
However, things did not work out as expected because Eden (Gardens) been made available to them for those matches during election time,” Mr Saikia said. So far, ACA has organized international ODI, T20 matches in the Barsapara stadium but IPL matches are still eluding the stadium. Mr Macrum of Rajasthan Royals after visiting the stadium said that he will present the case of ACA with the top management. ” RR has played few matches in Ahmedabad last season so I don’t see any difficulty in making Barasapara as a venue,” Macrum said.
