SHILLONG: In a relief to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Minister Samlin Malngiang informed that the land owner at Lad Mawreng has agreed to the laying of pipelines for the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS – III) which is around 80 meters.
The department had encountered a problem as some individuals did not want PHE pipes to pass through their land.
Speaking to reporters, Malngiang said, “The scheme is making progress and I want to see the GSWSS completed and I am keen to commission the project as early as possible.”
The government is planning to take loan to complete the project.
When asked about the Rs 105 crore loan, he maintained that the department will be careful that the huge amount does not affect the state’s exchequer.
He said besides the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), the department will depend on other financial institutions so as to reduce the burden of interest.
Malngiang said the department is also in talks with Hima Mawphlang as NOC is required for the construction of intermediate pump house falling under the jurisdiction of the Hima Mawphlang.
The deadline for the GSWSS project has been extended many times. The phase III includes many components which will benefit Nongmynsong, Pynthorumkhrah and Madanrting and bring additional water to areas of Mawlai and Nongthymmai.
The cost of the project is Rs 193.49 crore and it was sanctioned in 2008.
