Crackdown on illicit liquor

TURA:  Altogether 58 persons have been arrested in the past two months during crackdown on illegal sale of liquor in West Garo Hills district, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Excise.
According to a government statement, as many as 58 cases were detected, including five unclaimed cases, with seizures amounting to approximately 98.045 litres of IMFL, 119.4 litres of beer and 87.165 litres of ID liquor. In this connection, 13 cases were disposed off and a fine amounting to Rs. 9,500 was realized.
The black marketing of liquor after shops close in the region is a booming business for many bootleggers who make a tidy sum selling their products at steep prices to hundreds of customers.
