SHILLONG: The Assam Rifles and the Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday signed a ‘Charter of Affiliation’ creating history.
The charter, which was signed between Director General (DG) of Assam Rifles Lt. Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan and Indian Coast Guard Director General (DG) Rajendra Singh here, would enable the two forces to learn different aspects of operational skills and technological know-how from each other.
This tie-up was made possible after the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Defence gave their nod.
DG of Assam Rifles Lt. Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan, after signing the ‘Charter of Affiliation,’ said there would be exchange of information and technology between the two forces.
It is expected that the initiative will facilitate greater understanding of operational ethos, sharing of best practices with each other, building camaraderie and utilisation of each other’s assets for operations, training as well as sports and adventure.
On the other hand, the DG of Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh said that five Assam Rifles personnel would be taken onboard ‘Shaurya’ soon to see for themselves the different operational aspects of the coast guards.
The Assam Rifles has plans to involve Indian Coast Guard personnel during operations in the North East’s Indo-Mynamar border.
The signing of the ‘Charter of Affiliation’ was preceded by a joint wreath laying ceremony at the Assam Rifles War Memorial and a combined Guard of Honour led by Capt. Ruchi Pathak of Assam Rifles.
