SHILLONG: The BJP candidate for Shillong parliamentary seat, Sanbor Shullai, lost his security deposit, as did the party candidate in Tura, Rikman G Momin.
An election official said a candidate should get one-sixth of the total votes polled so as not to lose his/her security deposit. In the case of Shullai, he secured 76,683 but the required votes are 1,30,000.
Tura BJP candidate Rikman secured only 31,707 whereas 97,000 votes would have saved him from losing security deposit.
Other candidates who lost their security deposits are THS Bonney, Samuel Hashah and Romeo Phira Rani.
