SHILLONG:  Terming Jemino Mawthoh’s loss in the Lok Sabha elections as ‘miraculous defeat,’ UDP senior leader Bindo M Lanong on Friday informed that the party would meet in the first week of June to review the defeat of the common candidate from Shillong constituency.
Mawthoh lost the elections to Congress’ Vincent Pala by a huge margin of over 1.52 lakh votes despite the fact that Mawthoh was backed by all the political parties supporting the MDA government.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Friday, Lanong said the BJP won the elections single handedly while the entire opposition was united to defeat the saffron party. However, in Shillong the common candidate who was supported by all regional parties lost the elections miraculously, he said.
Informing that the party will review the elections next month, Lanong said that even NPP is a part of the NDA Government at the centre but people voted in large numbers for the NPP candidate.
Earlier, Mawthoh had maintained that the CAB-BJP tag on UDP wreaked a havoc for the UDP.
