Court awards lifer to murder accused

NONGPOH:  The District and SessionsCourt of Ri Bhoi has awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 50,000 to an accused involved in killing his elder brother.

It may be mention that in the evening of December 14, 2016 at around 7:30 – 8 PM, accused Spelling Kurbah (30) struck his own brother, (L) Bartyu Kurbah with a machete at Amkheri village near Umsiang in Ri Bhoi District following which, the victim received serious injuries on his front neck and on the wrist of his left hand and later on, succumbed to his injury on the spot.

 The Judge Mrs G Rani in her judgement convicted the accused and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 50,000.

  Further, the Court also directed the Government to pay an amount of Rs. 3,00,000 to the family of (L) Bartu Kurbah as compensation.
