TURA: Students of Tura’s Don Bosco College were on Tuesday treated to a session about life skills through a magic show by motivational speaker Prof. Rajesh Fernando of Garden City University, Bangalore, who held them spell-bound using illusions and tricks to raise important issues pertaining to life.

Welcoming Prof. Fernando the principal of Don Bosco College, Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim, said the college was fortunate to get a life coach of his calibre to impart value education and career guidance in a very enjoyable manner through illusionary tricks.

Prof. Fernando of Garden City University, Bangalore with as many as 8 world records under his belt, including the Guinness and the Limca Book of world records and his 6389th programme at a college took up the D-formula to motivate the students.

The creative communicator said the D-formula was nothing but Dream, Design, Desire, Drive, Direction, Decision, Dedication, Determination and Destination.

Using illusions and tricks to teach some hard truths, the motivational speaker said that FEAR (False Evidence Appears Real) seldom allows us to fulfill our Dreams.

“We can Design our dreams by the 4-L formula of listen, learn, lead and liberate. Our Desire to excel must be fired by passion which will never let us down. Our Drive to succeed depends not on winning but on trying several times,” urged Prof. Fernando.

Giving an example of the valiant horse Chetak of the Haldighati Battle fame, Prof. Fernando said the battle was won because Chetak’s Direction was based on Decision to overcome the worst dangers.  If we only kept in mind the sacrifices made by our parents to see us through higher education, we would have the Determination to reach our Destination, Prof. Fernando said.  The distinguished illusionist said the sky was the limit to what one could achieve if they imbibed this formula.

Encouraged by the motivational discussion, some of the students even came forward to tell the assembled audience about the sacrifices made by their parents to support their education.

Prof. Fernando also narrated the difficulties he faced in his life and told of the quality education he received from the Salesians of Don Bosco.
