SHILLONG: Following the recent blasts in Sri Lanka which left more than 250 people dead, city police have asked different religious establishments to install CCTV cameras.
A police official said that advisories were issued from time to time and after the recent attacks in Sri Lanka, they have once again asked all religious establishments, including mosques, temples and churches, in the city to install CCTV cameras in their respective premises.
Police are also monitoring which religious establishments have installed the CCTVs and which have not.
The advisory comes in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka. Three churches and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings.
Altogether 258 people were killed, including 46 foreign nationals and three police officers, and at least 500 were injured in the attacks.
Apart from religious establishments, the Shillong police earlier had also asked all the commercial establishments in the city to install CCTV cameras.
CCTV cameras have been installed by the state government in 30 locations of Shillong and police have already submitted a proposal to install 30 more.
The installation of CCTV cameras will also help to deal with cases of burglary, crime against property and even traffic management.
