SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Shillong MP Vincent Pala have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers in New Delhi on Thursday night.
The chief minister and governor are landing in New Delhi on Thursday to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Besides, a team of Meghalaya BJP on Wednesday left for the national capital.
State president of the party Shibun Lyngdoh along with MLA Sanbor Shullai left for New Delhi on Wednesday while some other members are expected to travel to the national capital on Thursday.
Talking to media persons, Shibun Lyngdoh said that the NDA-II government led by Modi will prioritise development of the North East.
“The BJP government will give more priority to the development of the North East,” said Lyngdoh.
Expressing his happiness that the NDA has been elected for a second term, he added that the ruling coalition in the state being part of the NDA, the state government and the Centre would work unitedly for the development of the state.
The BJP won 303 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha in the recent general elections helping the NDA to 353 seats, which is 17 more than last time.
The ruling coalition currently has 99 members in the 250-member Rajya Sabha and needs 124 for a majority. The opposition has 65.
It may be mentioned that though the BJP won the 17th Lok Sabha polls with a thumping majority, the state BJP performed poorly in both the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.
In Shillong seat, BJP candidate and sitting MLA Sanbor Shullai could manage only 76,683 votes and in Tura Lok Sabha seat party candidate Rikman G Momin secured a mere 31,707 votes.
