SHILLONG: Khasi Jaintia Butcher’s Welfare Association (KJBWA) has decided not to procure any cattle from Khanapara from June 3 and shops will remain close from June 7.

This was a decision taken during the executive committee meeting of the KJBWA on Friday at its office in Mawlai, Shillong headed by president of the association, Generous Warlarpih wherein the problems faced by butchers in Khanapara were discussed.

In a statement issued here, the association alleged that the traders would smuggle the healthy cattle to Bangladesh while the bad/bony cattle are sold to the butchers.

The association has urged other butchers to join hands with the association.
