SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Cabinet Minister and a BJP MLA, AL Hek has reiterated that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) should be a state subject.
Talking to media persons here recently, Hek said whenever the NDA Government at the centre would push the Bill, he would take up the matter with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to make it a state subject.
“I have not taken up the matter since the idea is shelved as of now,” he said
According to Hek, if the Bill is made a state subject, there would be no issue at all.
It may be mentioned that the North Eastern region witnessed violent protests after the contentious Bill was passed in Lok Sabha.
Following the protests, the Central Government did not table the Bill in Rajya Sabha.
Earlier, Hek said that the party had worked very hard to win the election from Shillong but it could not win the seat though they were expecting to get much more votes
It may be mentioned that the BJP in Shillong seat got around 76000 votes while in Tura, it got 31000 votes.
Hek also said that North East is a part of India and there should be uniform development in all parts of the country
