SHILLONG: NPP state president WR Kharlukhi on Saturday slammed Congress leader HM Shangpliang for his statement of forming a Congress government in the state.
Shangpliang had earlier made a statement about exploring the possibility of connecting with friendly neighbourhoods to form a new Meghalaya government.
Kharlukhi retaliated by saying that the state Congress at the moment can only sell dreams in order to keep their hopes alive and most importantly to keep their MLAs intact.
While terming the assertion of Shangpliang as “a desperate situation that demands a desperate comment”, Kharlukhi added that the Congress is already in a bad situation at the centre as well as in the state.
“From 44 MPs in 2014 the Congress now has 52 MPs which is quite pathetic,” Kharlukhi said adding that there are already rumblings in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka Congress and that Meghalaya Congress is no exception.
“It is a political theory to try to form a government but it is absolutely baseless to say that the Congress is forming the government,” Kharlukhi said.
“Congress should focus on the 2023 elections and work to prevent their flock from going astray,” he added.
