SHILLONG: There are many ways to make someone smile and who knows it better than Priyankur Nandy, aka Anky.
The Shillong boy conducts various community services with the help of like-minded people and this time he and his team decided to contribute to the green cause keeping in mind World Environment Day on June 5.
Sixteen concerned citizens, including Nandy, conducted a cleaning drive at Laitlum on Sunday under makeSomeoneSMILE initiative that started in December 2012. The drive started at 7am and covered 8km within the area. Till 4pm, the team gathered more than 20kg of waste.
“We were happily acknowledged and applauded by locals there and even tourists, a couple of whom joined us saying ‘hey even I want to join you guys’. We found liquor bottles, cigarette packets, plastic bottles, polyethene and more,” said Nandy, whose brainchild is the initiative.
The team also distributed clothes, stationery and sanitary napkins, among other things, among villagers and BPL families.
