Hanaman acting chairperson of rights panel

SHILLONG: The lone member of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), PJP Hanaman, will officiate as its acting chairperson.
The order of the Governor in this regard was following the retirement of chairperson of MHRC, Aftab Hussain Saikia, retired chief justice of High Court.
The order says that Hanaman will be the acting chairperson until the appointment of a new chief.
As per rule, any retired chief justice of High Court is eligible to be appointed as MHRC chairperson.
