Murder case filed to probe woman’s death

SHILLONG: A murder case has been registered by police regarding the mysterious death of employee of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
The body of the woman was found in a forest at Umbir in Ri Bhoi, on Thursday.
Though the police registered the case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, Ri Bhoi police are awaiting the postmortem report before reaching to any conclusion.
The police added that cause of the death of the lady would be known only after receiving the postmortem report.
Police said if the postmortem report indicates any foul play, there will be a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The women’s police station in Nongpoh is investigating into the matter and so far no body has been arrested.
The deceased, identified as Iohbianghun Sahkhar, was a resident of Umpling and worked as an assistant manager at Orchid, Polo.
Earlier, the police said a nylon rope was found tied around her neck and some bluish marks were found on her left hand. No other major injury was found on the body except for a bluish colour on the jaw line on the right side.
The investigating team found her shoes near the body and hand bag with a knife, a nail cutter, homeopathic pills, water bottle, mobile phone and ID card, among other things.
