SHILLONG: The FKJGP has denied the statement that the NGOs, including the FKJGP are collecting Rs. 350 daily from each teer counter.
Targeting former rebel leader Rimpu Marak for creating misunderstanding, FKJGP leader Pritam Marak said in a statement on Sunday that the allegation of Rimpu that NGOs are extorting Rs 350 daily from his Bawil Dawil business is a farce and a reflection of his frustration since the NGOs were instrumental in stopping his extortion spree from teer counters.
“ Even when he was illegally operating the Bawil Dawil, his average sale per day may have been hardly Rs 200 per counter as people chose not to bet in Bawil Dawil allegedly because he used to pay the lucky customers in installments in 2-3 days. Besides, we the NGOs have already filed an FIR against Bawil Dawil on March 8 as it is illegal and accordingly police has already stopped its operation”, Marak said .
The FKJGP leader said the NGOs had asked the teer-counters to stop paying extortion money to Rimpu and warned all the illegal teer counters to stop operating immediately.
“However, we assured the teer counter owners and salesmen that we will urge the concerned department to expedite their applications for them to reopen their counters legally at the earliest”, Marak said.
