350 devices donated to aid visually impaired

SHILLONG: TorchIt, an Ahmedabad based social tech start-up distributed 350 ‘Saarthi’ devices to the visually impaired persons in the state, including a 5-year old child being the youngest of all the beneficiaries.
The event, a CSR initiative by Oil India Ltd, was organised recently in collaboration with Bethany society at JyotiSroat School, in the society’s premises.
The ‘Saarthi’, internationally known as the ‘Fourth Eye’, is an ergonomically designed assistive mobility device that serves as a handheld object detection smart cane enabling the visually impaired to navigate their surroundings with ease, independence, and without fear of any kind.
TorchIt also trained the beneficiaries to appropriately use the device.
The prominent guests present in the event included Carmo Noronha, Executive Director, Bethany society, Bertha Dkhar, Senior Program Coordinator, Bethany society, HunnyBhagchandani, Co-founder of TorchIt and team members of the organisation.
