Agatha hands over Garo language inclusion memo to Modi

TURA: Member of Parliament from Tura Agatha K Sangma has, on Saturday, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a memorandum of the A’chik Literature Society seeking the inclusion of the Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

The A’chik Literature society, through the inclusion of the Garo language in the 8th Schedule, is seeking the protection and preservation of the language besides promoting and strengthening it.

The last time a delegation of the society met with top Indian leaders was on December 18th last year when a similar memorandum was handed over to then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Parliament House and also to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Parliamentary Affairs minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.
