Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to consider setting up a National Level Training Institute for Armed Forces in Assam.
Calling on the new Defence Minister in New Delhi, Sonowal expressed hope that Assam and North East would benefit immensely from his leadership of the Armed Forces.
He informed the defence minister that insurgency in the region has been controlled to a large extent with full support of the army and exuded confidence that law-and-order situation of the State will further improve in the near future.
Sonowal apprised the Union Minister about various steps taken by the State government to inculcate in the youth a spirit of nationalism holding many national and international sports and other events.
He also informed him that in spite of significant deployment of armed forces for guarding the borders and for tackling insurgency in Assam, the state does not have a single institution of armed forces.
