SHILLONG:The picturesque hill capital city ofShillong may well become a Presidential Retreat in India if the suggestion of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is to be considered by the Centre.
In his meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said making Shillong a Presidential Retreat would send a very strong message of inclusiveness and a message of importance accorded to the Northeast by the Central Government.
According to Sangma, the President would spend at least two weeks in a year here in Shillong.
Currently, there are two Presidential Retreats in India – The Retreat Building in Shimla and the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad.
According to Sangma, the locations of the Presidential Retreat one in North and another in South, symbolise unity of our country amid diverse cultures and people.
