TURA: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Dalu Unit on Tuesday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and submitted a memorandum highlighting various issues concerning the area that need to be looked into.

Among other issues raised by the committee in the memo include the creation of an additional 33 KV Power line supply from Chiringpara (Ampati) 132 KV via Purakhasia to Dalu Sub-Division (MeECL). The committee stated that stable power supply for the region has been lacking for the last many decades and demanded that an additional power supply line be provided to ease the sufferings of the people.

Regarding the educational front, the committee while informing that the Dalu Government Higher Secondary School is the only institution run by the government in the region sought the appointment of a full fledged Principal and Vice Principal in the school. According to the committee, the school is temporarily being run by a lecturer who holds dual charge as Principal as well as her permanent posting, which is affecting the school’s functioning. Besides, due to the increase in the number of students every year, the committee also sought the construction of an additional building for classrooms in the school.

The committee also raised the issue of hardships being faced at the present Dalu market and sought the construction of a super market building at the existing market site.

With regard to water supply the committee urged the Chief Minister to urgently look into the Greater Dalu Water Supply Scheme from Bugai River at Deku Bandarigre, the proposal for which was made three years ago. “We want the government to immediately look into the proposal made earlier so that the project can be sanctioned as early as possible to provide clean water to the people of the area,” it added.
