Jilted lover writes ‘IS’ message on mall posters; held
Thane: A man has been arrested from suburban Vikhroli for allegedly writing messages mentioning terror organisation, the IS, on the posters of a mall, police said on Monday. The accused, Ketan Ghodke, had also mentioned the mobile phone numbers of a woman and a man along with the messages that read: “gazva e hind, Dadar Siddhivinayak boom, Isis is coming slipper cell is activated”, said DCP Avinash Ambure. Siddhivinayak is a famous temple of Lord Ganesh located in Prabhadevi area of Mumbai, which attracts lakhs of devotees. The DCP said police contacted on the phone numbers and eventually found out that it was a mischief played by Ghodke to target the concerned woman with whom he had been in relationship for seven years. “To teach her a lesson, Ghodke wrote the phone numbers of the woman and her boyfriend,” Ambure said. A case has been registered under section 505 (Punishment for statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Ghodke was arrested Sunday. Further investigation is underway, he said. (PTI)
Hyderabad bar dancer stripped, thrashed for refusing sex
Hyderabad: A woman dancer at a bar here was allegedly stripped and thrashed by five colleagues, including four women, for refusing to have sex with customers, police said. The 25-year-old woman complained to the police that her colleagues chased her out of the bar late on Friday night, stripped her and thrashed her on the road in Somajiguda area. The victim, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, alleged that her colleagues tried to force her to have sexual intercourse with the customers at the bar. The woman, who was earlier working as a junior artist in Telugu films, had joined the bar a few months ago. Punjagutta police registered a case against Syed Majid Hussain and four women – Vijaya, Rithika, Sweety and Rekha – on charges of assault, outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt. While the four women have been arrested, police said Hussain, the main accused, was still at large. The bar management has said that it has nothing to do with the incident as it occurred outside the premises. Following the incident, Telangana Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy has asked the city police to submit a report on the allegations that dances are being organised at city’s bars and pubs in violation of the rules banning them. (IANS)
Woman held torturing boys
Aligarh: A 55-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly torturing four minor boys by putting chilli powder in their private parts. The incident took place in the Khair area of the city on Sunday afternoon when the boys, aged six-eight years, were playing with the accused’s grand-daughter. Suspecting that her grand-daughter was being sexually abused by the boys, Munni Devi called them inside her house and put chilli powder in their private parts. As the boys started screaming, the neighbours informed the police. On medical examination doctors confirmed injuries on their private parts. The victims later told reporters they had no clue why the woman did so. Khair Circle Officer Sanjeev Dixit said a case had been registered against the woman under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC and section 3/4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Cashier robbed of Rs 24 lakh
Saharanpur (UP): Three armed men allegedly robbed Rs 24 lakh from the cashier of a cooperative bank in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district on Monday, police said. The cashier was carrying the amount in a bag to transfer it from one branch of the bank to another when three motorcycle-borne men snatched it form him in Gangoh town, around 40 km from the district headquarters, Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar P said. The cashier alerted the passers-by who informed the local police station. The police, along with locals, chased the men and managed to nab one of the suspected robbers with the money, the SSP said. The one who was held has been identified as Kanam Irshad, the officer said. (PTI)
Gandhi’s statue vandalised
Balasore (Odisha): A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found vandalised inside the premises of a government-run school in Sovarampur area in Odisha’s Balasore town, police said on Monday. A room christened ‘Bapuji Kakhya’ in the school as a mark of honour to the ‘father of the nation’ was also found ransacked, with cigarette butts and empty liquor bottles strewn around, a police officer said. The matter came to light when locals entered the school premises on Sunday, after noticing that a couple of trees planted inside the compound had been felled, he said. Upon entering the compound, they found the room open and the head of the statue lying on the ground, the officer said. The incident is suspected to have taken place on June 14. (PTI)
