SHILLONG: Work on improvement and expansion of the Fire Brigade junction will start soon and once completed it is expected to be freer for vehicular traffic.
The junction remains packed with vehicles most of the time forcing the Shillong traffic police to come up with alternative traffic arrangements.
Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said that the work on the improvement of the junction would begin shortly and they are just waiting for the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to remove the electric transformer.
“Once the transformer is removed, we will immediately start the work,” Dohling said. He also informed that the work order has already been issued. An amount of around Rs 20 lakh is likely to be spent on the project.
It may be mentioned that the state government earlier had improved and renovated the Motphran and Laitumkhrah junctions while several others such as Barik are in the pipeline for necessary renovation.
