SHILLONG: The state government is running against time to complete the long delayed inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong since the North Eastern Council (NEC) will stop funding ongoing projects from March next year.
An official said that the government is now going all out to complete the ISBT in December this year as the NEC has informed the state PWD that it will stop funding ongoing projects across the North East from March next year.
The project, which is under the Transport Department, is being executed by the PWD at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore.
An official said the main building of the ISBT is almost complete and other work like electrification and approach road would be completed by December.
The ISBT project has been delayed for long and multiple deadlines have been missed since it was sanctioned in 2013.
The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots in Shillong. The new terminus will accommodate 150-200 buses.
Once completed, it will be the second ISBT in Meghalaya with the one at Tura having been inaugurated recently.
