Woman’s body sans the head recovered on Neelachal Hills in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Recovery of a woman’s body sans the head at the stairs of Joi Durga Temple, not far from   the famous Kamakhya Temple in Neelachal Hills here has sent the city police into a tizzy amid preparation for the annual Ambubachi Mela.

The body of the woman wrapped in a blanket was found on Wednesday night while some items used for carrying out religious rituals were lying beside the body. City Police Commissioner, Deepak Kumar who rushed to the spot on Wednesday night, said the woman was most likely murdered on Tuesday as part of some superstitious practices.

The police have launched a massive search operation in Neelachal Hills in the wake of recovery of the body even as devotees from different parts of the country are streaming in for Ambubachi Mela that begins on June 21.

Police have already set up 560 CCTV camera in and around Neelachal Hills as part of security arrangement. The unprecedented murder of the woman took place despite massive presence of police and paramilitary personnel in and around Kamakhya Temple premises for the forthcoming Ambubachi Mela.
