Review meet on improving education held in Tura

TURA: A review meeting under Deputy Commissioner’s Systematic Reviews and Field Inspection with regard to Education department was held yesterday evening at DRDA Conference Hall, West Garo Hills, Tura where Rama Krishna Chitturi, SDO (C) Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Officials of Education Department and Heads of Institutions of various schools and colleges of the town attended the meeting. West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh chaired the meeting.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh initiated the discussion on the progress and implementation of the programme Project Star entitled “School Transformation by Augmenting Resources” and emphasized on the need to motivate the students and provide preliminary career guidance and counselling to school students so that they can choose their career according to their interest. He also said that most of the students study aimlessly and, therefore, they must be given proper guidance and make them understand the importance of choosing a career or profession for their future.

With regard to the dismal percentage in the recently conducted Board Examination, Ram Singh suggested that remedial classes or crash course should also be provided to the students to improve their learning and writing skills while appearing for examinations. Moreover, pointing out to the vast difference between rural and urban based primary schools of the district, he directed the officials of the Education department to monitor the schools of their respective areas on a regular basis and also to work out to improve the students especially in the elementary level and also to conduct morning assemblies, reading newspapers, etc so that they gain knowledge as well as train them to communicate better in future.

While sharing his views during the meeting, Headmaster of renowned Tura school Sherwood School, Tyrone D’Brass informed that his school is using “Next Education” easy to understand learning module for children which is based on modern technology from Hyderabad and also works in coordination with teachers and parents for better management of the school students. Meanwhile, while discussing the scholarship schemes for students, Principal, Durama College, Jesse Marak informed that since the scholarship have to be applied online and most of them do not know to apply and hence, they spend lot of money while going to cyber cafes which he said that it has been arranged in the college campus and added that the affidavit needed to submit with the scholarship form is also creating a problem for the students.
