TURA: Two persons, including an auto rickshaw driver have been arrested by Tura police for the alleged gang rape of a young woman by four men near Tura, this week. The 21 year old woman who hails from South Garo Hills and is under medical treatment for a neurological disorder had come to Tura on Wednesday to attend a training programme of the Bethany Society, a Non Governmental Organization that handles mental and physically challenged persons, at Tebronggre village of Rongram. The victim is said to suffer from seizures and is under medication. She claims she was lured to the Riverside in Chibragre area and forcibly given alcohol before the crime was committed by the auto driver and three other persons, including a local who had befriended her.All four were reportedly returning with the woman when the auto broke down at Rongkhon and locals finding their behavior strange accosted them. During questioning two of the accused, including the man who lured her, quietly slipped away leaving the remaining two to the mercy of the angry crowd who gave them a sound trashing before calling the police.Tura police have arrested two of the men, Akash Hajong and Suresh Chetry, while two other suspects, including the man who lured her, remain on the run. However, there are conflicting reports over the actual sequence of events. One of the arrested men claim he was just a co-passenger who was travelling as a co-passenger from Rongram to Tura while the driver denies any wrongdoing.”The victim has said that she was sexually assaulted by four persons and we have arrested two of them. Investigation is going on and we are also searching for two other missing persons involved in the incident,” said West Garo Hills district police chief MGR Kumar on Sunday.
