TURA: Organizations from Rongjeng area in East Garo Hills have sought action against a particular contractor in charge of constructing a college in the area, for allegedly using sub standard materials.

The college in question is the Model College for Rongjeng which is being constructed near Darugre village and the same is being undertaken by a particular contractor from Tura. In their complaint to the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the organizations including the FKJGP, ASWA and GSU sought action against the contractor as well as the site engineers.

The organizations recently paid a visit to the site of the construction and found that stones being used for the construction were of sub standard quality, following which the complaint to the DC was made.

“We are alarmed that such poor quality materials are being used for the construction. What is the guarantee that the building will stay upright even for a year? The contractor and the PWD engineers are equally guilty in this and criminal charges should be filed against them,” the organizations said.

According to the organizations, workers at the site revealed that sub standard materials were being used as neither the engineer nor the contractor had provided quality materials for the construction. The organizations have sought the deputy commissioner’s intervention and the immediate stoppage of work at the site.
