SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong of Lawsohtun has condemned the murder of Hapish Nongbri from Malki and extended condolences to the bereaved family, while requesting the authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and nail all those involved in the crime, said a statement issued here on Sunday.
The members of the Dorbar Shnong said the three persons; Freddy Sohtun, Lastborn Ksanlah and Tenzing who were arrested from Lawsohtun Block-II recently for their involvement in the heinous crime are not originally from the locality.
Sohtun and his wife Ruby Rynjah had on several occasions violated the rules of the village by illegally selling liquor and other intoxicants despite prohibition by the Dorbar Shnong. They were also handed over to the police several times, the statement said.
But despite being busted a number of times and having several warnings issued against them, the duo continued with their illegal activities, it added.
The Dorbar also informed that Lastborn Ksanlah is a tenant in the village and said that it had no knowledge about Tenzing, who was illegally residing in the village until he was arrested from the house of Beauty Rynjah who is the mother of Ruby. Village headman Lurshai Shylla and Secretary Raymond Kharshiing have urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation against the mother who is the house owner and her daughter regarding Tenzing, who is from Arunachal.
Meanwhile, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Lawsohtun Unit also condemned the death of Nongbri and urged the police to take strong action against the culprits.
