State to observe day against drug abuse

TURA/SHILLONG: As part of the awareness against drug abuse, a marathon race has been flagged off by the West Garo Hills police to mark the International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit trafficking at District Auditorium Tura, today.
The selected route for the race begins from District Auditorium, Tura and will culminate at Chandmary.
BSF organises rally
The BSF has organised a rally to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today.
The rally, comprising of more than 500 BSF personnel in uniform including Officers and students of BSF Senior Secondary School, begins from the BSF Camp, Umpling via Nongmensong to Shillong Golf Course from 6:30 am onwards.
The rally is in cognizance to achieve a society free of drug abuse and to make the local populace aware of the hazards of drug addiction and illicit trafficking.
Besides, BSF’s dog squad will also take part in the said rally. Moreover, BSF Jazz Band will add to the fervor of the programme with its melodious songs.
On the occasion, U K Nayal, Deputy Inspector General/PRO, BSF Meghalaya has appealed the citizens to fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
He also requested the general public to participate in the rally.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society has organised a State-level observation of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today.
The programme begins with a rally from State Central Library premises till Don Bosco Square from 10 am whereby S.A. Rynjah, MPS, Superintendent of Police (City), East Khasi Hills, Shillong shall flag off the same and to be followed by the State Level Observation at Don Bosco Youth Centre at 11 am.
