JOWAI: The All Jaintia Cements and Clinker Transporters Association and the All North East Transports Association have slammed the state government for allowing illegal collections all along the National Highway by owners and staff of weighbridges, District Councils, those who man check-gates and also by police personnel.
Both the associations held a joint met here on Tuesday and decided to write to the chief minister.
“We will write to the CM and we would like to request him to clarify how many weighbridges are there and how many police check gates? Also we would like the CM to inform us how many illegal District Council check-gates are set up all along the National Highway, thereby violating the Supreme Court ruling”, a member said.
“We have given one-week time to the CM to reply, if he fails, he will definitely face the Consequences”, another member said.
According to the transporters, they suffer loss while transporting goods and materials from Jaintia Hills to other parts of the North East.
These collectors told us, ‘‘We cannot help because Ministers told us to collect for them and we also got some amount, Everybody is getting share from all kinds of collections along the National Highway be in Umtyra, Lumshnong and Umkiang Police Outpost”, one of the members of the Association said.
