Workshop on Math kicks off
Shillong: The three-day ‘State level Workshop on Mathematics for Upper Primary School Teachers of Meghalaya’ was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui at the Conference Hall, Shillong College. The workshop is organised jointly by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya (SCSTE) and the Mathematics Department, Shillong College. The objective of the programme is to train and build up the concept of Mathematics among the target groups and to make Mathematics learning more interesting and fun for the students. Addressing the inaugural programme of the ongoing workshop, Lahkmen Rymbui said that mathematics is an important subject and plays an integral part in our day-to-day lives. Owing to the poor foundation in mathematics, the performance of our students in this subject is very low and in order to encourage and motivate our students to take up mathematics with a more positive approach, workshops such as these will equip our teachers with innovative ideas and techniques which, in turn, will enable them to teach our students in a more interesting manner, he said.
Approach road closed
Mawkyrwat: The Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Ranikor Division, South West Khasi Hills has informed that the approach road to Domshken and other neighbouring villages is closed to all vehicular traffic in view of possible sliding down of road formation caused by incessant rainfall in the area. “Inconvenience cause to all road users is regretted and restoration of traffic movement will be allowed only once the road is brought back to safe and normal condition,” Executive Engineer PWD (Roads) Ranikor Division, M Kharnaior said.
Meet on safai karamcharis held
SHILLONG: A one-member delegation of the of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis on Wednesday held meetings with the officials of the state government to discuss about the welfare of the Safai Karamcharis. Member of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Jagadish Hiremani also interacted with union leaders of Safai Karamcharis Associations in the presence of the officials of the state government. It is also learnt that the meeting discussed on how to provide alternate jobs and livelihood for people who used to be manual scavengers.
