Mawkyrwat: Khonjoy is a remote area under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division which has limited access to road communication as well as mobile network.
Lack of electricity and scarcity of drinking water add to their problems. With this in mind, Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein donated an ambulance so that the PHC in Khonjoy area will be functional. The ambulance will be used temporarily by the doctor of the PHC to move to and fro from Ranikor to Khonjoy as well as transport patients.
Marwein told reporters that he visited the PHC last year and found that it was not functional. He took up the issue with the health department and they appointed a doctor and nurses. But due to unavailability of electricity, drinking water and proper network, it did not go well. The MLA had a discussion with the doctor in which for the time being, the doctor will travel from Ranikor.
The MLA said the ambulance was handed over to the local committee but for now it will be kept in the PHC under the supervision of the doctor.
Marwein also informed that he has taken up the issue of drinking water with the PHE department in which it is expected that within next week water will reach the PHC. He added that the issue of electricity was also taken up with the Sub Divisional Officer.
Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, Sub-Divisional Officer, HS Diengdoh admitted that Khonjoy is a difficult area for doctors and nurses to work and believe that the ambulance will serve its purpose for the people of the area. Presence of doctors, nurses and medicines makes the hospital functional, Diengdoh added.
Ranikor MDC, Nasar Marwein hailed the MLA for donating the ambulance to the people from his own pocket. Meanwhile, the doctor in-charge of Khonjoy PHC, Dr. L Sangma also thanked the MLA for providing the ambulance.
