Building handed over to JNV Mawkyrwat
Mawkyrwat: The principal of Maharam Govt Higher Secondary School on Thursday handed over one of its school buildings to the principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Nongstoin to be used as a temporary building for JNV Mawkyrwat from this academic session onwards. The permanent building of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Mawkyrwat is under construction in Mawlangwir village. South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo informed that the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Regional Office has been keen to start the academic session since last year and had written to the Deputy Commissioner to identify a temporary building for the school. Laloo informed that she had proposed the unused school building at Maharam Govt Higher Secondary School to be utilised as temporary school building with the approval of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, which provided funds to repair the dilapidated Assam-type building.

NGH felicitates SSLC, HSSLC toppers
TURA: A felicitation programme was held at Mendipathar College on Thursday during which three best students from each of the SSLC and HSSLC examinations were felicitated. The programme was organised by the District Administration, Planning branch, Resubelpara with an aim to acknowledge the achievements of students and to motivate others to achieve more. Addressing the students as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu said that students need guidance and encouragement in order to boost their academic performance and urged the teaching fraternity to provide correct orientation beginning at the early school level. Sadhu informed that workshops and guidance programmes were organized extensively for the welfare of the students and added that the determination and interest for studies and achievements should come from them. A workshop on career opportunities was also held on the same day by Resource Person and Assistant Employment Officer Kajorie Sangma.

AEC building, approach road inaugurated
SHILLONG: The AEC building and approach road at Kut Rngi, East Khasi Hills was inaugurated on Thursday. The building was built at a cost of Rs 10 lakh and the approach road at Rs 11 lakh by the job card holders of Kut Rngi VEC and was inaugurated by the BDO in the presence of the Dorbar Shnong, job card holders, teachers and students of the area. The BDO lauded the VEC members in carrying out developmental activities in the area and asked the Dorbar and the VEC members to take up more works relating to environmental protection and rejuvenation of water sources. Kut Village is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Sung Valley and Nongjrong village and is inhabited by over 300 households. The Sordar of the village, Chester Sohtun, in his concluding address, sought the intervention of the government through the Block Office to bring forth sustainable development in the area and congratulated the Block Office for having facilitated development in the area.
