Solid waste management programme in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: A one-day awareness programme on ‘solid waste management’ was organised by the office of the Urban Affairs Department, Ri Bhoi in collaboration with the village Dorbar of Pahamlapong and Pahamsohthri on Saturday.
The programme was attended by the Assistant Engineer, Urban Affairs Department Ri Bhoi, S Langstieh, Coordinator of SIPMIU Wompher Shadap, village headman Mathew Makdoh along with executive members of the village Dorbar and local residents.
In their address to the gathering, Langstieh and Shadap enlightened the villagers on the segregation of waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable as part of the solid waste management project falling under the Nongpoh Town Committee.
) Dustbins were also distributed to 100 households with an aim to encourage the villagers to follow the instructions given during the awareness programme.
Meanwhile, village headman Mathew Makdoh expressed his gratitude to the Urban Affairs Department and the Nongpoh Town Committee for organising such a programme and informed that the village Dorbar has decided to form Self Help Groups (SHGs) to collect waste from households and earn a living at the same time.
