Drugs seized, 14 held

Shillong: With the drug menace being a problem in the state, the Anti- Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team of Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills and the staff from Pasteur Beat House apprehended fourteen persons from Polo area in the city on Tuesday involving with drug mafias.
Upon searching the apprehended persons, a small amount of suspected drug (Heroin) net weight- 0.47 grams was recovered from the possession of one of the accused identified as 38-year-old Marios Pyngrope of Lumshyiap, Langkyrding.
During further interrogation, Pyngrope revealed to the police that he keeps his drugs in a forest area across FCI godown. K9 Unit was also requisitioned to conduct search on his lead.
The search of PHE Pump House at Lawmali was conducted in presence of independent witnesses and a total of 17.76 grams suspected contraband was recovered. The due process laid down in NDPS Act, was followed while conducting search and seizure in presence of respectable members of the locality. Police are still probing the source of drug supply network of Pyngrope. A case NDPS Act has been registered against him.
In a separate incident, Madanrting PS staff and the ANTF team after getting information of selling of drugs in Happy Valley area conducted a raid on Tuesday and apprehended Luck Chakravarty.
After observing due procedure laid down in NDPS Act, the team was able to recover three soap boxes and four golden tobacco tins full of suspected contraband weighing 39.95 gms of heroin. A case has been registered and the accused has been forwarded to court.
