NONGPOH: The District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi district on Thursday imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 Cr PC, prohibiting any person, organization etc., from indulging in or resorting to the act of earth cutting within the district.
This has been done in view that large scale, indiscriminate earth cutting that are taking place within Ri Bhoi district especially in Killing areas which may resulted in landslides, flash floods and erosion of soil and in turn, lead to the destruction of private property, houses, electricity poles, water pipe lines drainage system etc., lying in the upper and low areas. Furthermore, it has been mentioned that using of heavy-duty machines in earth cutting may also result in intense noise pollution and air pollution.
The order will come into force with immediate effect until further order.
