Earth cutting banned in Ri Bhoi
Shillong: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting any person, organisation etc from resorting to the act of earth cutting within Ri Bhoi district. This has been done after receiving reports that large scale, indiscriminate earth cutting are taking place within the district especially in Killing. Furthermore, it has been mentioned that using of heavy duty machines in earth cutting may also result in noise pollution and air pollution.The order will come into force with immediate effect until further order.
Jail inmates’ products on show
WILLIAMNAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Garo Hills, with the active support of the jail authorities, will be holding an exhibition which will showcase handicrafts made by the inmates of Williamnagar District Jail on July 13 at the ground floor of the District Court premises in Williamnagar. The exhibition is being organised with an aim to promote rehabilitation, reformation and to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the inmates. The official release by the DLSA also said that the benefits of the sales will accrue directly to the inmates.
Blood donation camp in city
SHILLONG: A blood donation camp will be held at Woodland Hospital in the city on July 5 at 3pm. The camp is being organised by the Janshakti Party, Meghalaya on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the LJP’s National President and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. Apart from the blood donation camp, the LJP is planning to visit patients in various hospitals in the city and will try to assist them in the best way possible. The LJP will also try to help the poor and needy by providing them with a livelihood.
Meet on monsoon preparedness
TURA: South Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, H B Marak carried out a review meeting on monsoon preparedness with officials of PWD roads, medical, water resources, horticulture, agriculture, PHE and supply department. The meeting reviewed emergency contingency plan during the monsoon season and standard operating procedures of each department.
NEEPCO signs two MoUs
SHILLONG: NEEPCO and Satluj Jal Vidut Nigam Limited (SJVN) signed an MoU to work together to leverage their core strengths in project development for establishing power projects in India and abroad. The MoU was signed recently in New Delhi by CMDs of NEEPCO and SJVN in the presence of senior officials of both the CPSEs. NEEPCO also signed an MoU with Ministry of Power, Government of India for the year 2019-20.
