Timber smugglers apprehended

SHILLONG: The United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) Jirang circle, recently apprehended timber smugglers from Assam for smuggling timber from the forests of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in Jirang, Ri-Bhoi.
In a statement issued here, the UHM alleged that the rampant felling of trees has been going on for many months and claimed that they stopped the smugglers from carrying out the illegal activity.
The organisation has also urged the District Council to look into the matter and to strengthen the check points and check gates.
