Agartala: With the successful run of Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata direct bus service over last 15 years, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb wants to start bus service between Sabroom and Cox Bazar of southern Bangladesh to boost tourism in the region.
Addressing a programme here on Sunday, Deb said that he would soon write to Union External Affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar for necessary clearance to start bus service considering the tourism potential of Tripura and Bangladesh.
“Tripura government is working for development of tourist circuit covering a part of Bangladesh that will include religious tourism, nature and leisure tourism, so that people will get a composite favour,” the chief minister said.
At present hundreds of people from Tripura travel to Digha of West Bengal, Puri of Odisha, Chennai, Goa and Mumbai to visit beaches but Cox Bazar sea beach of Bangladesh is no way inferior to them covering less then a hundred kilometres from Tripura, which is cost effective and time saving and best for weekend leisure, Chief Minister observed.
Tripura had started direct bus service from Agartala to Dhaka in 2003. (UNI)
