Agartala: Police launched an investigation into the death of a housewife during ligation procedure on Saturday at Gomati district hospital of South Tripura allegedly due to the negligence of doctors.
The victim family registered FIR against three doctors under section 304 A of Indian Panel Code charging them of causing the death of the patient by their negligence.
However, nobody is arrested so far in connection with the case and health department has also initiated a separate enquiry into the allegation.
The accused doctors denied the charges and said during the preparation of ligation the patient died due to cardiac arrest, cannot blame doctors of negligence rather it’s merely an accident.
According to the report, Soma Nama Das (35), a housewife of Maharani village of Udaipur was brought for ligation in the hospital as per schedule. The patient party was not sure about her pregnancy and at the last moment when the procedure was started, doctors found there was no pregnancy report with her.
“Meantime, she was administered the basic injections before entering into the operation theatre. Immediately, her urine sample was sent for test and sent her to the nearby room for relaxing until test reports come. After a few minutes the patient party reported to the staff about the breathing problem of Soma and doctors attended her and found she was collapsed,” said a doctor of the hospital.
Later, husband of the patient happened to be a clerk of the hospital Biswajit Das filed a case against Dr Tani Bhattacharjee, Dr Kajal Das and Dr Pradip Jamatia who have been in the team for carrying out ligation in the hospital.
He alleged after administering the injections Soma developed breathing problem and after one and half hours of battle, she breathed her last at the operation table. (UNI)
