Entry rates for science centre
Shillong: Shillong Science Centre, Government of Meghalaya, recently inaugurated its two new facilities—the Innovation Hub and the State-of-the-Art Digital Planetarium/Space Exposition Theatre of 8-metre diameter dome, the first of its kind in Meghalaya. The entry rate to the centre has been fixed at Rs. 20/- for school children and Rs. 30/- for general public. There will be two shows held daily at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM for both the Digital Planetarium and 3D Show, and three shows on Saturday- 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM. This was informed by the Officer on Special Duty, Shillong Science Centre.

Seminar for NCC kicks off
SHILLONG: A three-day Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and Caretaker Officers (CTOs) training seminar is being conducted by NCC Group HQ Shillong along with State Education Department, Meghalaya, at DGAR Records Conference Hall in Laitumkhrah. The seminar is set to continue till Friday. During the seminar, various issues of NCC with respect to its role and vision, training of ANOs and cadets, support from various agencies, how to make it more realistic and significant with present scenario were discussed. In the closing address, Rymbui, who was also present, said the NCC is doing a great service in shaping the future of youth of state and the government is ready to give all support, which will help the NCC to grow.

Group inspects Ri Bhoi village
Nongpoh: The Ri Bhoi Youth Organisation (RBYO) Central Body under the leadership of its President Baiateilang Lapang and its members on Wednesday inspected Umktieh Pylllun village in Umroi after receiving complaints from the villagers that their land were badly affected due to the expansion of Umroi Airport. As per complaints of the villagers to the leaders of the organisation, it was alleged that several paddy fields including village internal roads were covered with earth mud flowing from the areas where a hill was being cut down for levelling near the Umroi Airport. Expressing concerned over the incident, RBYO leaders alleged that because of the expansion of Umroi Airport, farmers were the worst affected, and that even the school-going children and the residents of the village face huge difficulties.

Blood drive in city
SHILLONG: The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation held a worldwide blood drive in NEIGRIHMS on Wednesday where around 130 people—including the hospital staff, the foundation volunteers, and locals—participated in the event held. The drive was held under ‘Worldwide Blood Drive one-two Movement’ where 86 people, mostly youth, donated blood and Life Stream Blood Bank collected about 60 units of blood. The total number of potential lives saved through the blood drive is around 180.

World Honey Bee Day
Mawkyrwat: The office of the District Horticulture Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, observed the World Honey Bee Day on the theme ‘Save Honey Bees’ in the function held on Wednesday at its office campus. The event, which was attended by officers of different departments and bee keepers from all over the district, was graced by K Pyngrope, Joint Director, Horticulture, Shillong as the Chief Guest.

Holiday for WGH on July 16
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills (WGH) has declared July 16 as local holiday for all state government offices, magisterial courts and educational institutions in the district on the account of ‘Labour Corps Day’.

Dalu NH road closed
TURA: The Additional District Magistrate and Incharge Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills issued an order prohibiting temporary movement of heavy vehicles with load on Tura – Dalu National Highway (NH) till the damaged portion of the road is rectified and made stable by NHIDCL.
