NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin legislator Macmillan Byrsat who is also the adviser of the Hima Nongstoin Land Owners Coal Traders & Producer Association (HNLOCT&PA) slammed former chief minister and opposition leader Mukul Sangma for his statement in which he said that Conrad Sangma had misinformed the people about coal mining.
Byrsat termed the statement as a ‘desperate attempt’ and on Friday told reporters that the opposition party led by the former chief minister should go through all the 302 pages of the Supreme Court judgement on coal mining before making any statements as the statement made by Mukul proved to be too immature.
“Based on the statement made by Mukul to the media on Thursday, it seems that the opposition leader has misled the people of the state,” Byrsat said.
“The judgement of the SC on July 3 clearly shows that the ban on coal mining in the state has been lifted and that coal mining will allowed after the government has completed the mining plan,” he said.
The Nongstoin legislator also slammed Mukul for not doing anything for the people during his term as the chief minister with regard to the ban.
He said that during the MUA II, the HNLOCT&PA filed a civil appeal to the Supreme Court and that the state government at that time did not give the much needed support to lift the ban which clearly showed that the Congress-led government did nothing and did not care about the people of the state.
Byrsat also lauded the MDA government for its support as he termed the judgement made on July 3 a landmark judgement which restored back the rights of the people.
Meanwhile, HNLOCT&PA general secretary AL Syiem informed that a felicitation programme will be held in Nongpdeng on July 31 for Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and all who were involved in fighting against the ban on coal mining.
He also appealed to all headmen, Sordars and the people of the district to be a part of the felicitation programme.
