UP school has no building, toilet, drinking water
Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Students in a primary school here in Uttar Pradesh are forced to sit on the ground under the open sky and travel back to home to use the toilet as the school lacks basic infrastructure. Megha Agarwal, a teacher at the school, said: “Students go to their homes if they are thirsty or need to go to the toilet as there is no facility here. The school is closed whenever it rains.” There is no space in the school for cooking mid-day meals. The food cooked and brought from a nearby school. Basic Education Officer Rakesh Kumar, however, said that the matter would be resolved soon. “There were some government schools which were working from rented properties. Many of them have now become dilapidated or are non-existent now. Wherever there is a possibility, we are merging such schools with other within a kilometre area. At places where there is no alternative, we will be demanding for space and funds to construct a building,” Kumar said. In the state government’s budget for 2019-20, Rs 500 crore has been allocated for improving the infrastructure in primary and higher primary schools. (IANS)
Two held for transporting beef
Indore: Two persons were arrested on Sunday night for allegedly transporting beef in a four-wheeler in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, police said. The two accused, picked up from Kesarbagh road under Rajendra Nagar police station limits, were identified as Rameez (23) and Imran Gamu (26), both residents of nearby Mhow tehsil, Inspector Sunil Sharma said. Sharma said a person accompanying the duo managed to flee. “A veterinarian examined the meat and said it was that of a cow and buffalo. The two have said they got the beef from Mhow slaughter house. We are probing the claim,” he said. They have been booked under the Madhya Pradesh Cow Progeny Slaughter Prevention Act, 2004, he said. (PTI)
Watchman paraded naked
Palghar: A watchman of a residential complex in Virar area of Maharashtra’s Palghar district was beaten and paraded naked on the streets after being accused of molesting a 6-year-old girl, police said on Monday. The incident happened on Sunday night in Bolinj in the township, an official said, adding that the mob which beat up the 22-year-old accused included several women. “The watchman has been hospitalised. We have booked him under section 354 (assault to outrage modesty) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said Senior Inspector Appar Saheb Lengre of Arnala police station. “The victim’s mother has complained that the watchman touched the girl inappropriately when she returned from tuitions at around 6pm on Saturday. She approached police on Sunday,” he said. No offence has been registered so far in connection with the assault on the watchman, he added. (PTI)
Irate farmers pour milk on road
Panaji: Several farmers on Monday poured hundreds of litres of milk on the road near the Goa Assembly after a dairy cooperative rejected it. Protesting farmers said they had brought the milk as a gift for legislators but had to pour it on the streets after police stopped them outside the Legislature complex. “We did it with a heavy heart. We know how tough it is for a farmer to do this. But we had to protest,” said Meghashyam Raut, one of the leaders of the protesters. He said they were upset as the Gujarat-based Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited (SUMUL) refused to take delivery of 4,500 litres of milk Monday morning after failing it for quality following a litmus paper test. Raut said a proper laboratory test should have been conducted by SUMUL before rejecting the milk. He said SUMUL, which was introduced in Goa during the time of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar with a promise of better rates for milk, was now claiming non- cooperation from the state government and had also withheld bonuses. Sisters held captive for 2 months
Dholpur: Two sisters were allegedly abducted and raped multiple times by a man who held them hostage for over two months in Dholpur district of Rajasthan, police said on Monday. The matter came to light after the younger sister, who is a minor, managed to escape from captivity on July 10 and lodged an FIR on Saturday, they said. Police said the elder sister is still held captive and efforts are on to locate her. The girl alleged in the FIR that the accused, Naresh Gurjar, abducted her along with her elder sister on April 24, when they were going to market for some work. “She alleged that they were kept at an unidentified place and were raped. She said that she managed to escape on July 10,” the SHO of Kanchanpur Police Station, Hari Singh, said. Police said the FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the SC and ST (prevention of atrocities) Act on the basis of a complaint of the girl, who is a minor. “Her elder sister is with the accused and various teams are trying to locate her,” the SHO said.
