Cops thwart illegal coal export in WGH

TURA: Despite the ongoing ban on illegal coal trade and Supreme Court issuing guidelines for the future extraction of the mineral, illegal mining continues as was evident from the seizure of two coal laden trucks near Tura early Tuesday morning.
According to police, information was given to Rongram police station, 15 km from Tura, that two illegal coal laden trucks were coming from Williamnagar towards Rongram through the old hill road which passes through Oragitok.
A police picket intercepted two loaded trucks (ML08 B 7427 and ML08 B 8967) at around 1:30 am.
Both vehicles with the coal consignment were seized and initial investigation by police revealed that one Chekan Marak of Williamnagar, who is currently absconding, had hired the two vehicles to ferry the illegal coal from Williamnagar to Damalgre village where there is a huge demand for its use in the brick kilns.
