SHILLONG: While conducting an inspection at the landslide-hit Mawsynram – Lawbah road, Minister PHE, Samlin Malngiang said road expansion is necessitated since the road at Mawshun is landslide prone especially during rainy days.
A special committee led by the minister visited the road under Mawshun village. At the inspection, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar MLA Mawkyrwat, Pius Marweiñ MLA Ranikor who are members of the committee and MLA of Mawsynram HM Shangpliang were present.
Malngiang said the committee will suggest Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to resort to hill cutting for road widening to ease travel.
Shangpliang said he has apprised the members of the special committee on the problems relating to road connectivity.
Apart from the landslides in Mawsynram constituency, it was a bumpy journey from Trongpleng till Balat where the blacktopped road faced heavily damage with stones getting eroded due to incessant rains.
