TURA: The 101st Anniversary of the 69th Garo Labour Corps Day was observed at the Cenotaph erected at Lower Babupara in Tura, on Tuesday, in memory of the Garo recruits who went to France during the First World War, some of whom never returned.
The memorial function is held every year since 1919 and Tuesday’s function as usual, was organised by the Tura Municipal Board.
It may be mentioned that this day is specially remembered to mark the safe arrival of the members of the corps and in fond memory of those who died and performed noble works as recruits of the 69th Garo Labour Corps in France during the First World War.
